The Yoshi Rant

Hey! remember this? IT'S DONE!!!! WOOO!!!

So, this is an animation I did for the 24 hour challenge held at my school this past weekend.
Originally, I was gonna do an animatic, but when I couldn't find a reason for the characters to conflict with each other, I gave it up (conflict is afterall the driving essence of any story, no matter what anyone says)

But, beforehand, a friend of mine came up to me asking if I wanted to do something "robot chicken-ish" (i.e. parody a childhood television show/videogame/whatever). I initially declined (even though I had a bunch of ideas), because I'm starting to hate the idea of doing an animation without planning it out first. But when the animatic fell through, I acquiesced to his request.

So the idea behind this is that, in Super Mario World, it is assumed that Mario/Luigi and Yoshi are working in tandem when partnered and as such Yoshi is throwing out his tongue of his own volition. However if you go back and look at the sprites of the animation, Mario is donkey-punching Yoshi in the back of the head!!! Go back and look if you don't believe me. That's what he's doing.
The second part of the rant deals with the art evolution of the Mario franchise. When Yoshi/the yoshi species first debuted, he/they was bent forward, like the perfect mount for Mario. However, when he/they became 3D (Yoshi's story) he/they stood straight up.
And since Yoshi's story chronologically takes place before Super Mario World, it could be assumed that either: at some point in puberty, Yoshi's saddle-like shell grows too heavy and he is forced to bend over, or Mario (and/or Luigi) accidentally bent their spines upon meeting him/them (again) in Super Mario World. I always liked to assume the latter (I mean, they had no problems with hitting them!)

So, ...yeah I spend way too much time thinking about these sorts of things....

NOTE: I didn't make this to take a dig at Mario or anything. Explicitly the opposite, Actually. This is just the way I enjoy my childhood nowadays. After a certain period of time of mindlessly loving a franchise, I start to analyze it ; i.e. how are all Sonic characters of comparative/equal speeds if "Sonic's the fastest thing alive," how come Mario can drown in the overworld stages, but doesn't need to breath in the underwater ones, why does the doctor's accent change when he regenerates, how the hell are all the different Kongs in Donkey Kong related, etc, etc. It doesn't mean I hate the series involved; I just like to ask questions. Isn't that how parody and satire work?
